Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 225 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +6 degrees.  It is a blue magnitude 14 galaxy which spans 1.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 120,000 light years.  We are seeing this galaxy about halfway between edge-on and face-on.

The asymmetric galaxy disk shows some disturbance, with VV rows apparent in the arms and blue star clouds scattered throughout.  The colors here are unusually intense for such a distant galaxy.

The edge on spiral galaxy below is LEDA 214783, just slightly further away.  The disturbed nature of NGC 7102 suggests that these 2 could be interacting.  But the undisturbed nature of LEDA 214783, particularly the lack of any warp to the disk, makes me doubt that they are having a significant gravitational influence on each other.
